Winter Picnic

Last Saturday was Niece-Weekend (I try to get them every-other weekend, usually). I just had them for the afternoon, this time, but it was a great day. We went out to "BaPa's" land (my father's lovely wooded acreage) to play. We had a fun winter picnic, just the three of us.
It was really warm for January, but it was still winter. So, I hung a tarp on some trees to one side of us, just to serve as a wind-break. It did so quite well and we had a lovely late lunch.
We took our time and, when we were done, the sun was already pretty low in the sky. It was growing colder as we were running out of sun.
So, "Shaman Leaping Tiger", or something like that, wrapped a towel around her waist to keep her legs warmer and we bundled her up.
Little Stazi had no hood on her coat, so I borrowed my father's hat and gloves for her. Is that not just adorable?

It was a great day. I may break the every-other-weekend tradition and get them again this Saturday, so we can go back while Dad will be home. I hear a neighbor of his has an Ostrich we can pet. They'll probably love that idea (although the reality of it may seem less appealing, when they see how large it is).

Canoeing on Blue River (last summer)

Canoeing, Blue River, Milltown, Indiana.
ps: If you are EVER in Milltown, do not miss eating at the Blue River Cafe. You just wont beleive you're in BFE eating that kind of fine cuisine.
Run, baby, run. My neice enjoys a sprint along "ridge road", as we call it, on Dad's land.
The Spill-over attached to the "swimmin hole". The strange island in the middle looks much like a ship, to me.
The infamous "Power Line Hill". 4-wheeling down this hill is prohibited (yet, oh so much fun!). Dad's land, Indiana.

My nature-loving neice, up a tree in Marengo Indiana.
This is the same bridge you saw me climbing up in another pic, when I was waaay down there below. I didn't climb all the way up, of course. Still at Tioga Falls, Louisville, KY.
Kyle is shutterbugging it too. It's a pine tree paparazzi(sp?) kind of day.
Following the creek, here, we have just come into view of the humble, yet humbling, Tioga Falls. oooo aaaahh
nice, eh?
Time to ascend the stoney mud slide... Yippee!
Making me thirsty...
Bryan in front of the falls.
I love to stand under this cascade, but refrained while I had camera in hand.
Tioga Falls again
All new meaning to the words "shower curtain".
Tioga Falls
This was shot from behind the falls. The fellow in the background was an old friend shooting the falls.

Beautiful, eh? Fun to climb too.

TRAAAIIN!!!!!
Ok, maybe not. Love this pic, though. That's me, Danny, and Bryan on the train trellis.

I guess I was scratching my face in this, but I love this mass of roots in the air. That's Danny next to me, he was a great hiking buddy but I never see him now.

4-Wheeling on Dad's Land

That's my eldest niece, Tori, at left, and Stephen and I on the right. Dad was the Driver on the red 4-wheeler (with Tori) but had hopped off to take this picture for us. The pic is blurry (I had the setting wrong) but it was a great day.
"I went to the woods because I wanted to live life deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life and see if I could not learn what it had to teach...
I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to put to rout all that was not life and not, when I had come to die, discover that I had not lived."

Henry David Thoreau
